Momentum

2021 Agency Work

While working as a graphic designer at Sprout Studios, I had the opportunity to be a part of creating a brand identity for Momentum, a non-profit organization that partners with schools and community organizations to provide sports-based youth development opportunities for kids and young adults.

Style Research

Momentum came to Sprout to design and establish their brand identity. The organization focuses on empowering local youth through golf, STEM education, youth workforce development, internship programs, financial literacy, and more.

In the first phase, we put together several mood boards to get a sense of the client’s desired look and feel. Styles ranged from ultra modern to classic and established.

Logo Development

The client gave us the opportunity to explore a few different styles based on the moodboards we presented. After the initial sketching phase, we decided on 6 concepts to continue developing, adding typography and color to the mix. The final mark that was chosen went through a dramatic evolution from the original sketch concept.

Supporting Materials

The final logo is an initial “M” inside of a flag shape. The form of the letter itself depicts a bouncing ball while the flag shape calls on the iconic golf tee flags as well as representing the idea of propelling forward. With the final logo and color palette established, we fleshed out the brand with a thorough brand guide, accompanying letterhead and business card, and supporting apparel and accessories.
