Opelika Main Street
2018 Agency Work
In 2018, I worked part-time as a graphic design intern at Baker Street Digital in my hometown of Opelika, AL. While there, I worked on branding Opelika Main Street, a Designated Community through Main Street Alabama that works to revitalize historic downtown areas.
Identity
Opelika Main Street needed a logo that spoke to the city’s heritage and historic atmosphere while also highlighting the progressive nature of the organization. To achieve this, I created a badge with bold, slab serif typography and blended it with a sans serif typeface and a clean building illustration to hit on the vintage feel while still maintaining modernity.
While the primary logo is the badge, I also created a series of type lockups for a variety of applications to give the organization flexibility for their many responsibilities, both present and future.
Photography
One of the key responsibilities for the organization is to promote and support local businesses in Downtown Opelika. Because of this, I felt it important to capture the spirit of those places with photography by Charlestan, one of my friends and classmates. These photos could serve many uses for Opelika Main Street and the owners of the businesses.
Website
Another major part of this project was to build a website for Opelika Main Street. This site would serve many functions including to promote events, advertise spaces available for lease, provide information on retail and dining, and offer memberships for individuals and businesses. The directory was a great place to showcase the photography in order to further promote local business.
